Harvesting healthier food for patients, community & environmental health

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) obesity affects 36% of American adults and 17% of children.  Obesity related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer.

The transformation of our food and agricultural systems into vast chemically laden monocultures and industrialized farming has led to increased antibiotic resistance, food borne illness, poisoned air and water, declines in pollinating insects and economically unstable rural communities.

Nationwide, healthcare facilities serve more than 6.3 million employees and 481 million patients each year. Hospitals and clinics as the de-facto providers of health care, are important settings for food that is healthier for patients, staff and communities, and supporting agricultural systems that improve environmental health.

HEARRT Midwest's "Harvesting healthier food for patient, community & environmental health" education and networking event will introduce you to the problem of unhealthy food and to award-winning healthcare facilities that are improving the quality and sourcing of food for all.
